No fewer than eight people were reportedly killed, while several others sustained high degree of injuries as a result of a renewed Baranda nomad/ herders crisis in the Baranda area of Jigawa State.
A combined team of security personnel comprising the military and police among others have been drafted to the scene in an effort to restore normalcy in the affected Baranda town, a 12 kilometre radius from the metropolitan Dutse.
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Jigawa State Police Command, DSP Lawal Shiisu Adam, confirmed the incidence, stating that the incidence started about 10 days ago, when some herdsmen attacked farmers and released their cows into their farmlands uncontrolled, a situation which sparked off serious confrontations from both parties.
According to an eyewitness account, the confrontation turned bloody as it claimed eight lives, leaving several other people injured, including passersby and pedestrians.
Shiisu further said when the police got hints of the incident, “our men were quickly mobilised to the scene and we were able to quell it, but later on it resurfaced about three days ago.”
He further stated that the attack this time was very severe as both parties were accused of attacking themselves with sophisticated weapons, killing over eight persons and leaving several people wounded, as well forcing others to run away for their life.
