The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA has opposed the bail application of disgraced police officer, Abba Kyari.
This comes as NDLEA claimed that Kyari plans to flee Nigeria to escape his crimes.
NDLEA made the submission in court on Monday.
The agency also argued that Kyari has the capacity to interfere with witnesses.
The agency made its argument in a 21-paragraph counter-affidavit it lodged before the court insisting that Kyari posed a flight risk.
While adopting the counter-affidavit before trial Justice Emeka Nwite on Monday, the NDLEA, through its Director, Prosecution & Legal Services, Mr. Joseph Sunday, stressed that the disgraced officer has the capacity to interfere with its witnesses.
Kyari alongside four former members of the Police IRT, ACP Sunday J. Ubia, ASP Bawa James, Insp. Simon Agirigba and Insp. John Nuhu, as well as two drug traffickers that were arrested at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, Chibunna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwanne.
Kyari and the four officers were arrested after getting caught attempting to bribe an agent of the NDLEA with $61,000 to facilitate the release of seized cocaine.
The Judge adjourned the matter till March 28th.
