Bandits Kill Six Christians In Benue Church

No fewer than six members of the All Nations Evangelism Ministries (ANEM) church located in Gwer West Local Government area of Benue State have been reportedly killed.

The Archbishop of the ANEM, Dr Yimam Orkwar, confirmed this while briefing newsmen on behalf of the Synod of the church in Makurdi, the state capital.

Dr Orkwar said the brutal murder of members has indeed saddened the entire church and called on the government to rise up to its responsibility of providing security to the lives and property of the citizens.

“Synod is saddened by the brutal murder of six of her members in Gwer West local government area of Benue State by Fulani herdsmen/ bandits and calls on the government to rise to her responsibility of securing the lives and property of her citizens. Security is paramount as infrastructural development would be meaningful only when citizens are alive to enjoy the infrastructure provided”.

He appealed to the government to urgently look into the plight of over two million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state who are wallowing in penury in camps, stressing that “these set of Nigerians have been in very difficult living conditions in the last seven years and are entitled to better living conditions in their ancestral homes”.

He acknowledged the efforts by the Senate to enact a law to address the prolonged conflict between farmers and herders, describing it as a welcome development, and admonished
well-meaning Nigerians to support the efforts.

The Archbishop observed the pains Nigerians are passing through under the heavy burden to survive the present economic realities and urged the government to evolve genuine steps to alleviate the sufferings of the masses to give them a better standard of living.
