Akwa-Ibom State Government has ordered the Commissioner of police Mr. Waheed Ayilara, to track suspects connected with cloning of the WhatsApp number of the state Governor, Umo Eno.
The Press Secretary to the Governor, Ekerete Udon, who made this known in a statement on Wednesday, noted that law enforcement agents have been duly alerted and are on the trail of the perpetrators of this unworthy act.
He noted that the state government’s attention has been drawn to carefully-orchestrated fraudulent posts on some social media platforms, where some suspected criminal elements cloned the WhatsApp number of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State with intent to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
“We hereby warn that any message appearing to solicit funds by these imposters should be totally discountenanced by the general public as they do not emanate from the Governor,” he said.
