The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Kaduna Zonal Command has detained Abdullahi Yahaya and Ibrahim Haruna on charges of money counterfeiting.

The Commission in a statement issued on Sunday by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale said when they were apprehended, a total of $81,700 in counterfeit $100 bills were recovered in their possession.

Oyewale further disclosed that Haruna said that the counterfeit dollars were provided to him some months ago for safekeeping by one Babangida, who is still at large.

He added that Yahaya said that he learned about Haruna’s possession of counterfeit dollars when one Kabiru, who is also alleged to be at large, connected him to Haruna in order to collect the counterfeit dollars for delivery to a buyer who was waiting at an agreed-upon location.

The commission also revealed other things discovered in their hands at the time of the arrest, including a small amount of colourless liquid presumed to be mercury, a chemical reportedly used to aid in the fabrication of counterfeit dollars.

According to the statement, the suspects will be charged in court after the investigations are completed.
