The petroleum products in more than 250 kegs covered with the sharp sand and several bags of cement were a product of continuous intelligence.
‘This is to tell you the desperation of these smugglers. You can imagine someone sitting down to plot a multi- million naira economic sabotage, highly unpatriotic act”
The anti bunkering unit set up by Ejibunu has made strategic incursions on the operations of petrol smugglers in so short a time, making daily arrests.
‘Not quite long, no less than 1,314 kegs of petrol were brought in. Today’s seizure is 250 kegs.
We will continue to run them out of this business until they discover how intense the anti smuggling war has become”
Ejibunu also pointed out that a truckload of prohibited foreign parboiled rice, of not less than 105 bags were intercepted by his men on patrol.
The smugglers had loaded the rice at the bottom of the truck with broken bones used in manufacturing of tiles to conceal the rice.
The customs Area Controller stated that the smugglers were heading towards Shaki in Oyo state when nemesis caught up with them.
“When our officers opened the truck, we discovered that it has “false bottom” constructed to hide the smuggled items.

What we just opened now is to enable us to see first hand, the rice that was neatly concealed, using animal bones.
As a matter of fact, these bags of rice were under the animal bones in the truck.
An unsuspecting person will never discover this, because the truck was carrying animal bones used for enamel wares”
Ejibunu appealed to the public to feel free to provide information to help in the fight against the menace of smuggling.
“The law permits us to protect our informants in line with the CEMA, section 151 even with the power to reward, assuring that such information with be treated with the highest secrecy.
He thanked the Comptroller General Col Hameed Ali for all the logistics and support while pledging to run the smugglers out of business
