Gunmen Slain Monarch In Taraba

36

Some yet-to-be-identified gunmen on Thursday assassinated a third-class chief, Abdulmutalib Nuhu, in Sensani Village, Gasol Local Government Area of Taraba State.

New Telegraph gathered that the monarch was slain just hours before the Taraba State Government hosted the Nwonyo Fishing and Cultural Festival in the state’s Ibbi Local Government Area.

The gunmen attacked Sensani village about 9 p.m. on Thursday and went directly to the traditional ruler’s palace, which is a few kilometres from Ibbi, the festival’s venue.

Prior to the incident, the Taraba State Government had informed those heading to the event that there would be appropriate protection during the festival.

The murdered chief’s older brother, Nuhu Sanseni, told reporters that the assailants arrived on motorbikes with rifles, killed his brother, and fled with his phones.

“They came to the area at about 9 pm last night, they went straight to his palace, shot him, and snatched his two phones. While they were going, they met with a young man who was coming on a motorcycle, they also shot and broke his leg before leaving the village,” Sansani narrated.

A senior police personnel in Sansani told our correspondent that his officers were already on the hunt for the killers.
