The leadership of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Ogun state, says it will soon set up a security committee in all tertiary institutions in the state to flush out criminals among the students.

Mr Damilola Simeon, the State Chairman of NANS, disclosed this at a news conference in Abeokuta on Sunday.

Damilola noted that the committee, whose aim was to flush out criminally minded students from institutions across the state would be tagged “Student Campus Security Committee” .

The NANS chairman flanked by the President, National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS), Gbemileke Ogunrombi, noted that the committee would work with the newly created OP-MESA and other security agencies in the area of intelligence gathering.

He noted that it was important to rid the state of cultism, kidnapping, banditry, internet fraud and other criminal activities.

He added that the students would provide the needed support to the security agencies for them to carry out their duties effectively.

“The setting up of the committee also became imperative to serve as one of the machineries to checkmate and curtail any unprofessional attitude by men of the OP-MESA and other security agencies.

“We will not tolerate undue invasion of our campuses and students’ residential areas by security operatives in the name of arresting criminals.

” We are ready to provide the state government with volunteers from the student constituency who will serve as whistle blowers on our campuses.

“These volunteers will assist in giving first-hand intelligence to security agencies as regards activities on suspected internet fraudsters on our campuses,” he said.

Simeon commended Gov. Dapo Abiodun for setting the pace by setting up an agency to address issues surrounding financial crimes and also the launch of OP-MESA in the state.

He said that the students would partner with the state government and other security agencies to ensure that criminals were tracked, arrested and prosecuted according to the laws of the land.

“We will deploy all our machineries across all the tertiary institutions in this state to ensure that the exercise achieves the highest results desirable by the governor,” he said.
