‘Nigeria Plunges Ghana Into Three Weeks Darkness’

Reduced gas supply from Nigeria has led to power interruption in Ghana which will last for three weeks. This was announced by Ghana’s state-owned electricity company, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), according to a statement seen by Saturday Telegraph yesterday. It was learnt that the gas reduction started on Wednesday, is due to maintenance work being carried out by a gas supplier in Nigeria. The statement added that this has led to a decrease in power generation capacity across Ghana.

ECG announced that load shedding would be necessary to manage electricity distribution efficiently. It assured the public that it is collabo- rating closely with other stakeholders in the power sector to optimize available resources and minimize the impact on consumers. It added that the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana are committed to effectively managing the disruptions to ensure that essential services remain uninterrupted during the reduced gas supply period.
