The Ogun State Police Command has arrested Abiodun Salami and Destiny Adeola on suspicion of cult-related activities in the Ijoko area of Sango-Ota, Ado-Odo-Ota Local Government Area.

The arrest occurred on August 8, 2024, following a series of violent incidents linked to cult groups in the region.

Omolola Odutola, the State Command’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrests via WhatsApp, stating that Salami and Adeola were detained after police received a tip-off from local residents.

“The suspects, along with other members of the Eiye Confraternity, had gathered at a location in Ijoko when residents alerted the police,” Odutola said.

According to Odutola, the Anti-Robbery Squad responded promptly, leading to the apprehension of Salami and Adeola while other members escaped.

“Items recovered from the scene included a toy silver pistol, locally made amulets, and suspected Indian hemp,” she added.

During questioning, Adeola reportedly admitted to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity and revealed that he was initiated into the group in 2022 at Atan-Otan.

“Adeola disclosed that he was initiated into the group in 2022.

“We are intensifying efforts to apprehend the other members who are still at large,” Odutola noted.

The recent arrests came on the heels of escalating violence in Sango-Ota and Ijoko, including a deadly cult clash in May 2024.

A report detailed that a suspected cult member named Seun was killed and beheaded in the area, an incident believed to be a reprisal attack.
