The members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Osogbo, on Monday, took a tour of the Olaiya flyover in the Osun State capital, AMILOADED reports.
The Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, had in February 2021 flagged off the construction of the Olaiya flyover, saying the project would be ready in nine months.
However, the NURTW chairman in Osogbo, Alhaji Kazeem Oyewale, popularly known as Asiri Eniba, on Monday, led other branch chairmen to the bridge which is still under construction.
Speaking during the tour, the NURTW chairman said, “What I have to say is that seeing is believing.
Those who have been speaking of the bridge from the comforts of their homes without beholding it would do well to visit before or after its official opening to know what is going on.
When we got here, we had several preconceived ideas which have been overruled by what we are beholding.”
Addressing the issue of robbery and sleeping on bridges Oyewale said, “I want to really appreciate our governor, Governor Gboyega Oyetola who takes security seriously.
I was here some 2 or 3 months ago and I was told that all the coverings around the bridge is to cordon off the bridge from those who intend to live on it.
Since the governor has carried us along in the construction of the bridge, I am assuring you that nothing of such will happen on the bridge, so security is assured.”
While speaking on Oyetola’s second term bid, the NURTW chairman expressed confidence that the governor would be reelected.
He said, “You all can see that it is sure. All that is happening right now is never before seen in Osun State that all Road Transport Workers are in one accord. In other states, several fights and misunderstandings occur in their association but we all are speaking with one voice for Governor Gboyega Oyetola in our association and it is a done issue.
“I have been in the face of the public before now and even before Governor Gboyega Oyetola became governor.
I worked in unity with the immediate past governor as well. It is not a strange thing for someone’s name to be mentioned especially when you have been blessed. A leader will always be a topic of discussion. I am well known for peace, not violence.
“I do not know anything about TOP, I am a member of APC and as far as I know, there is only one APC in the whole of Osun to which I belong.
You may associate me with whatever happens in APC.
I have said that investigations be made when anything incriminating is found, then I may be summoned.
There is a commissioner of Police in Osun, who is aware of all the happenings and it is not possible to be linked with violence and be associated with the government. The present government is a peaceful one,” Oyewale.
