Police Accuse Ogun Customs Controller Of Over-Zealousness

Ogun Command of the Nigerian Police Force have blasted the Customs Area Controller of Ogun  1 Command ldiroko,  for peddling fake reports, and advised him to shut up and be diligent with investigations before making conclusions, especially one that assaults the sensibilities of Nigerians and subject management of the Nigeria Customs Service to ridicule and embarrassment.

The police command who was reacting to customs allegation that one of its vehicles used for smuggling was intercepted by the customs, debunked the claim, saying police is not the owner of the vehicle with police number plate PF 1089 SPY.

The police command expressed disappointment that inspite of the fact that the customs is an intelligence driven organization with unfettered access to the police for needed clarifications on sensitive issues, the Ogun 1 Customs Controller, Comptroller Bamidele Makinde nevertheless choose to take the short cut lazed with mischief.

According to Police Command spokesperson, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi the said vehicle plate number is fake and given police identity as a decoy.

The statement partly read: “The command wouldn’t have like to join issues with a sister agency, but in order to set the record straight, there is need to make the following clarifications. To start with, the number plate on the vehicle which is PF 10889 SPY is not a police number plate, as no police vehicle will be numbered in such manner.

“The Nigeria Custom Services which have unfettered access to the top echelon of the Police command would have contacted the command for details information about the vehicle before labeling it as Police vehicle in their press briefing, more so that nobody was arrested with the said vehicle to give credence to their claim” adding:

“The command hereby wishes to inform members of the public that the said vehicle is not a Police vehicle and the number plate on it is fake and the police has nothing to do with it”.

Attempt to get the Customs Command reaction on the police position failed as the Customs Command PRO. Oloyede H. D did not respond to our inquiry sent to him via Whatsapp.

Compt. Makinde had on 22nd March 2022 announced he command intercepted he controversial police van conveying 27 bags of foreign parboiled rice each weighing 50kg into Nigeria.

The customs area boss reportedly further explained to journalists while taking them round the seizures in Abeokuta, hat the disputed the police is attached to one of the new generation banks, although he did not disclose the name of the said bank.
