Police nab suspected ritualists in Bayelsa

The Bayelsa State Police Command on Tuesday said its operatives have arrested three suspects for attempted ritual killing.

It was in collaboration with youths of the Sagbama community in the Sagbama Local Government Area.

Spokesman of the command, Mr Asinim Butswat, said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were all males and natives of Sagbama.

Butswat gave the suspects names as Emomotimi Magbisa, Perebi Aweke and Eke Prince, all 15 years old.

He said they allegedly accosted their victim, Endeley Comfort, 13, and hypnotised her to the apartment of Magbisa in the Sagbama community.

He said the suspects, on getting to the apartment of Magbisa, allegedly cut off Comfort’s finger and sprinkled the blood on a mirror for ritual purposes.

Butswat, a Superintendent of Police, said vigilant youths of the community noticed the suspicious movement of the suspects and raised the alarm.

He said the suspects were subsequently arrested and some substances suspected to be charms recovered from them.

He said the suspects had confessed to the crime.

Butswat said the victim was rescued and rushed to a hospital for medical attention.

The suspects, he said, had been transferred to the anti-kidnapping unit of the command for discreet investigation.

The spokesman said the Commissioner of Police, Ben Nebolisa Okolo, commended the efforts of the community youths for their vigilance in the community.
