The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command on Sunday night arrested four persons involved in illegal car racing in Abuja.
It followed public outcry over the menace of illegal car racing, acceleration contests and speed competitions on public highways.
FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said four racers were arrested and 21 vehicles confiscated.
She said: “I can confirm that we confiscated about 21 vehicles.
“Some of them ran and left their vehicles but we have four of them in our custody.
“This happened this (Sunday) evening along Muhammadu Buhari way, at the NICON junction.
“They will face justice after serious investigation.
“We are yet to profile any of the four, because we are still on operation.”
The Babaji noted that Section 228 of the National Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 is clear on the prohibition of any car race, drag race, acceleration contest, test of physical endurance, exhibition of speed, in all parts of the country.
The CP warned that any person or group caught organising or participating in the prohibited car racing event would be arrested and prosecuted.
He advised parents and guardians to prevail on their children and wards to desist from the act of illegal car racing and speed competition, as the practice or involvement is against the law.
