The Federal Government has stated its resolve to evacuate Nigerians from Ukraine.
This comes after the country was invaded by Russia.
According to the government, evacuation of Nigerians will begin as soon as the airports in Ukraine are open.
This was made known in a statement signed by the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Francisca Omayuili, on Wednesday.
Recall that shortly after Russian troops launched a wide-range attack on Ukraine on Thursday, the Nigerian Embassy in Ukraine urged Nigerians to remain calm and be responsible for their security and safety in the country.
However, a new statement released by the government assured Nigerians in Ukraine that measures are being undertaken to keep them safe and facilitate the evacuation of those who wish to leave.
“The Federal Government of Nigeria has received with surprise, reports of the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been assured by the Nigerian Embassy in Ukraine of the safety of Nigerians in that country and measures been undertaken to keep them safe and facilitate the evacuation of those who wish to leave.
“The Federal Government wishes to assure the families with loved ones in Ukraine that as soon as the airports in the country are open, it will assist in facilitating the evacuation of Nigerians who are willing to leave.
“In the meantime, the Nigerian mission has confirmed that military action by the Russians has been confined to a military installation,” the statement read.
