A combined team of police and military troops foiled an attack on the village of Akwando in the Kachia local government area of ​​Kaduna state on Monday.

Police spokesman in Kaduna state, Mohammed Jalige, said on Tuesday that troops killed one of the bandits and recovered an AK47 rifle.Mr. Jalige explained that the team acted on information received around 4:00 pm on Monday that suspected bandits had invaded Akwando Village.

The team immediately moved to the village and repelled the bandits, he added.

“The criminal elements upon seeing the operatives opened fire and when the troops returned fire, one of the bandits was neutralized and an Ak47 rifle loaded with 17 rounds of live ammunition was recovered.

“The other gang members fled with gunshot wounds,” he said.
Jalige added that the corpse of the neutralized bandit was deposited in the Kachia General Hospital while rigorous investigations and patrols were carried out to stop the fleeing bandits.
He also stated that normality had returned to the village of Akwando and called on the public to report anyone injured by a firearm to the authorities, ensuring absolute confidentiality.
