The son of the District Head of Gatawa in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Alhaji Isa Bawa, has been released by his captors after the payment of a ransom.

Alhaji Bawa, who was abducted about a month ago, tragically died while in captivity.

Surajo Isa, the son of the deceased district head, confirmed the news to Daily Trust.

He revealed that the bandits demanded and received a ransom of ₦60 million along with five motorcycles before releasing his brother.

“He came back from the bandits’ den around 8:30 pm,” Isa said.

He further explained that his father was buried by the bandits in the bush after his death. “This is what our brother told us after his release,” Isa added.

Hon. Aminu Boza, a member of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, also confirmed the development.

He expressed sorrow over the situation, noting that the late Emir’s son, Alhaji Kabir Isa, is currently receiving treatment at Usman Danfodio Teaching Hospital (UDUTH) in Sokoto.

“Unfortunately, they have buried the remains of the late emir in the bush.

“We learnt that the Emir was buried in the morning,” Boza stated.

He lamented the loss, emphasising the sorrowful reality that the Emir will not be seen again.
