The Plateau State Police Command has taken into custody a middle-aged man who allegedly attempted to supply arms to suspected bandits in Jos, the state capital.

The suspect, who is also said to have arrived in Jos from Zamfara State on Wednesday evening, was apprehended near the NTA Park while attempting to deliver the weaponry to suspected bandits.

Confirming the development on Thursday, Ibrahim Maikwudi, Chairman of the Jos NTA Park disclosed the suspect was almost lynched by a furious mob before being rescued by security personnel.

According to him, it was the security personnel who arrived on time that saved the suspect, stating that the individual arrived about 5 p.m. on Wednesday and was located opposite NTA Park, at the crossroads leading to the state Secretariat.

He further revealed, “He was just going up and down making calls and informing some people that he was just at the NTA Park for them to come and collect their delivery. So, two men nearby were watching and listening to his calls and suspected something was wrong.”

Maikwudi added that the two guys were unable to approach the suspect, but when their people arrived, the boys approached him and asked him certain things, but his responses did not add up.

He claimed that they apprehended him and took the bag he was holding, noting that the man objected, but when they opened the bag, it was full of weaponry and ammo.

According to him, people attempted to beat him up, but they hastened to notify the police because they believed the mob would kill him there, emphasizing that the suspect apparently confessed that he was not the only one on the trip to Jos, claiming that there were many more.

The park chairman described how officers from the Special Investigations Bureau Unit of the Police arrived and arrested him.
