Three persons died on Monday while three others sustained varying degrees of injury in an auto accident along Onitsha-Ayamelum road in Anambra State.
The crash, which occurred around 5:20pm, involved two vehicles, a Toyota Sienna and motorcycle.
An eyewitness said the Sienna driver was on top speed when he hit a motorcycle beside him while attempting to avoid another oncoming motorcycle.
He said the bus summersaulted and crashed into the bush.
Confirming the incident, Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi attributed the cause of the fatal crash to excessive speed.
He sympathized with the deceased families, and wished the injured victims quick recovery, just as he warned drivers to desist from excessive speed and drive within safe speed limits.
He said: “A Fatal Road traffic crash took place opposite Austin Farm by Onitsha-Ayamelum road today 7th February 2022 at about 17:20hours
“The crash was between two vehicles: an unidentified commercial driver of a whiteToyota Sienna with registration number: ABN504SZ, and an identified driver of a private motorcycle with no registration number. Driver’s name: Okwudili Okeke.
“The crash involved 6 male adults. 3male adults lost their lives while 3 male adults were injured.
“The corpses of the dead victims were deposited at the mortuary.”
