Some armed persons suspected to be thugs have attacked the Chairman of Katcha Local Government Area in Niger State, Danlamin Saku, leaving him unconscious.

According to reports, the thugs trailed him to his hometown, where he had gone to celebrate the Eid-El-Adha on June 16.

A source said the brutalised Council Chairman is currently at an undisclosed hospital where he is receiving treatment.

The cause of the attack is still sketchy at the time of this report, but insiders promised to reach out to ait.live as developments unfold on the matter.

A person who refused to disclose his identity claimed that the Council Chairman who is from Saku village, reportedly borrowed the sum of N2 million from money leaders in the Gadza Community in course of a Court case after the Local Government Area Council election in 2023, which he allegedly failed to repay, rather he is alleged to been avoiding the lenders.

Their paths however were said to have crossed during the Eid prayers, resulting in his being assaulted by thugs until he lost consciousness and had to be rushed to the hospital.

Another source in the area claimed that the victim had partially repaid the debt, yet others said that he had fully settled the financial matter, stating that the attack was politically motivated.

Meanwhile, neither the Niger State chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), nor the State government, and security agencies have issued a statement regarding the incident.

It could be recalled that the Niger State Governor, Umar Bago, had declared a State of emergency over thuggery in the State following a resurgence of violent activities of thugs in the capital city, Minna where he had directed security agents to shoot at sight any thug found threatening the peace of the State.
