Tragedy: Police officer’s son drowns in river

A 32-year-old man named Francis Danjuma, son of a police officer, allegedly drowned in the Ogun River.

According to Punch, Danjuma, a resident of the Isheri Olofin community, left his home around 2:00 p.m. on June 12, 2024, to bathe in the river.

The incident was reported by his father, Deputy Superintendent of Police Danjuma Shaibu, who resides at the Alausa Police Barracks in Lagos State. Shaibu stated that on June 12, around 2:00 p.m., his son went to the Ogun River to bathe and reportedly drowned.

Despite extensive efforts by family members and local divers, Danjuma’s body has yet to be recovered.

The spokesperson for the state command, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident on Thursday, June 13.

She stated that police operatives at the Ojodu-Abiodun station have begun an investigation to determine the circumstances behind the incident and to recover the body.

“Upon receiving the tragic news, detectives from the Ojodu-Abiodun division visited the scene and coordinated with local divers and the Olofin Council to search for the body,” she said.

“Efforts to locate the body are ongoing. We are also working to uncover the details leading to this unfortunate incident.”
