Two Sentenced To Death For Murder In Rivers

A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has sentenced Telma Bestman, a housewife, and Wilson Okelekele, a security officer, to death by hanging for their roles in the conspiracy and murder of Bestman Wagbara.

Justice Augusta Kingsley-Chukwu delivered the judgment on Tuesday, saying the prosecution had proven the conspiracy and murder charges against the defendants.

Justice Kingsley-Chukwu, however, said the court found Telma guilty of plotting with Okelekele to murder her husband, Wagbara and revealed that she let Okelekele enter her husband’s chamber through the rear door, where the security guard committed the crime.

Following the judgment, the Justice ruled that Telma and Okelekele should be executed by hanging.

On February 13, 2020, Telma and her security guard Okelekele orchestrated the murder of her husband, Wagbara, at their home on the Saint John axis of Rumuolumeni-Ogbogoro link Road in the state’s Obio-Akpor Local Government Area.

Speaking to journalists outside the courthouse, Chief State Counsel from the Rivers State Ministry of Justice, Precious Ordu, expressed pleasure with the decision, calling it “justice duly served.”

In contrast, Okelekele’s representative, Prince Ubojiekere Amadi, voiced dissatisfaction with the result, indicating that he intends to appeal while evaluating the judgment for further action.
